The Planetarium Science Center is organizing Intel-Bibliotheca Alexandrina Science and Engineering Fair (Intel-BASEF) 2013 during the period 9-11 March 2013. The competition targeting school students (14–18 years) is designed to increase their awareness of the importance of scientific research. Submitted projects are evaluated and screened on two stages.

Participants are requested to research on a topic of their choice from among 17 scientific themes. Participants will prepare a research paper, a data handbook, a prototype (optional), a display board, an abstract and a presentation. The project can be presented individually or in a team of 3 participants maximum. The PSC specialists will provide students with technical support and expertise advice.

To join the finals, participants are requested to take part in one of the qualifying competitions held on 12–14 February 2013. Winning projects will be qualified to participate in Intel-BASEF during the period of 9–11 March 2013, where projects are set for final evaluation by university professors, specialized scientists and engineers, as well as industry professional volunteers. The first three winning projects announced in the closing ceremony will represent Egypt in Intel International Science And Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) held in Phoenix, Arizona, USA, 12 - 17 May 2013.
