Biography:
Wayne LaBar, with 27 years of museum experience, is the principal/founder of ALCHEMY studio. ALCHEMY studio is an independent, experience and institutional development, design and consulting services studio that designs, develops and provides creative direction for museums, science centers and other lifelong learning experiences around the world. Wayne oversaw master planning for science centers in Turkey, natural history museums in Canada and cultural and science centers in Saudi Arabia, and led exhibition design projects for Bell Labs, New York Transit Museum, the Caguas Science Center and others. His experience includes thirteen years at Liberty Science Center as Vice President of Exhibitions including oversight of thematic content, exhibitions, large‐format film program and 2D/3D/overall design, five years as Director of Exhibitions at the Tech Museum of Innovation. Wayne started in 1987 at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History and has included the Carnegie Science Center and the design firm Krent/Paffett. Wayne has a B.A.E. from The Georgia Institute of Technology. Wayne is the President of the National Association of Museum Exhibitions for the American Alliance of Museums.

ALCHEMY studio has been both a design lead, architectural consultant and advisor, fabrication coordinator and master planner for science centers that starting from ground zero in different cultures in the Middle East. Mr. LaBar’s presentation will provide an overview of best practices, common mistakes as well as important points that those managing emerging science centers should consider on how to get the best results from their consultants and contractors.
