Planning for a Science Center in Palestine - Recommendations and Challenges
In the 21st century science culture has become tremendously essential given the fast pace of development and implications science has on the everyday lives of humans. In Palestine, science education remains to be traditional, and there is still a lack of informal-science learning venues that raise interest in science and awareness of how science and technology work and interact with the society and environment. Therefore, the idea of an interactive science center in Ramallah emerged from the need to invest in nontraditional, informal-science learning venues to tackle issues related to science culture and literacy in Palestine. This center is envisioned to be one which highlights the cross-fertilization between arts and sciences, the scientific connections in the Palestinian context, and the universal aspects of science that connect humanity. In this panel, we will present the idea and rationale behind the science center, highlight the different stages of planning, discuss the unique challenges of establishing such a center in Palestine, and finally present recommendations based on our experiences.
