Biography:
Nimet Atabek obtained her BSc degree in City and Regional Planning from Middle East Technical University Faculty of Architecture, Ankara, Turkey. She has received her MS from BILGI University and ULUDAĞ University.
Nimet ATABEK has the advantage of having multi disciplinary professional backgrounds, she received technical education and social education as well, practiced in management of NGO’s, also received pedagogical diploma, coordination of national and international congresses. She started her job career as the Teacher of Primary School in 1975.
During her first years as a teacher, she coordinated (www.mycoe.org) http://meridian.aag.org/sustainable/gallery/abstracts/malcilar.cfmMyCoe Sustainable Development Project and several projects- Student Council, Project based Term Paper, School Magazine, Active Library, Environment, and Community Services- from the beginning to the end.
After eight years in teaching as a primary school teacher, she worked as a City Planner in Ministry Of Settlement for five years. Next, she became a Coordinator of Fairs and worked in a Congress Department of Travel Agency in Bursa, Turkey, holding 150 Organizations. In 1992, she became an English Teacher and worked as an English teacher in Bursa between 1992 -1997 and in İzmir between 1996 -1997 because her husband had to change his job. While working as an English teacher in Bursa, she was a Representative of Chamber of City and Regional Planner in Province Bursa Branch for a year and actively involved in Habitat 2 Organization.
After her retirement in 1998, she became a General Manager Chamber of Medicine, Izmir, Turkey between 1998 and 2000. Returning back to Bursa because of her husband’s job, she became an English teacher in MALCILAR High School, Bursa, Turkey, in 2001. Being an English teacher in MALCILAR High School, Mrs. ATABEK won the Innovative Teachers Competition of the Ministry of National Education in September through an ELT Project. and participated in the 2006 Microsoft Worldwide Innovative Teachers Forum which was realized in Philadelphia, USA 9 -11 November, 2006. There were four categories: Content, Collaboration, and Community & Educators' Choice. Her project was determined as the second best project from the “Collaboration” category by the international jury. ‘’4x4 Learnıng Matrıx’’ Model
‘’4X4 Learning Matrix’’ Model was structured and put intopractice by the cooperation of Ministry of Education, Bursa Governorship, Uludağ University, Bursa metropolitan municipality, Nilüfer Municipality, Association of Private Schools, Provincial Education Directorate, District National Education Directorate and Tunçsiper Anatolian and TunçsiperScience High school so as to create learning systematics that enables life-long learning.
By ‘’4x4 Learning Matrix’’ Model, In ‘’Research, Learning, Practice and Assessment’’ Learning Area, 16 celled matrixwas set within the context of ‘’Student-Centered Learning,Applying to Daily Life, Integrating Technology, YGS-LYS-Based Learning and Assessment’’. Teams formed by 185 Innovative Teachers, Education Leaders working in differenttypes of high schools in 11 different branches determined bythe Directorate of Education and University Teaching Staff appointed as moderator by Uludağ University structured this model with workshops held in three different time zones, for a selected unit attainment, activity and product were defined and applied in classes.
