Success Story: Sparking Your Summer

Following the phenomenal success of school visits, Mishkat decided to develop its in-house summer camp to inspire gifted students to become future energy scientists and innovators. Mishkat’s summer program is a rich mix of workshops, shows, challenges, and excursions that take audiences to places such as solar farms. Through this summer camp, Mishkat aims to shed light on sustainable energy science, and encourage gifted minds to be curious and continue asking questions to discover more about energy around them.

Design Squad Global Clubs

The Design Squad Global Clubs (DSGCs) is an initiative launched under the umbrella of NAMES Network, and the leadership of Al-Nayzak Organization for Supportive Education and Scientific Innovation. The DSGCs are currently running between NAMES Members in Palestine, Lebanon, Tunisia, Turkey, and Saudi Arabic; the sessions of the current round take place once per week for 12 weeks, from 14 February to 17 April 2019.

The 4th edition of the Euro-Mediterranean and Middle East Summer School for Science Communication, EMME 2019, will take place 27-31 October in the capital of Kuwait, where it will be hosted by The Scientific Center of Kuwait (TSCK), one of the first science centers that began operating in the Middle East almost 20 years ago.

Success Story: Exchange Projects; Developing and Designing Interactive Educational Exhibits about Renewable Energy

In 2015, the Children’s Museum Jordan—NAMES Full Member—started designing and developing interactive exhibits internally and locally; thus, getting involved in an emerging industry in the Middle East. The first locally designed and fabricated exhibit was launched in March 2018; introducing the subject of biodiversity in Jordan, it was developed through the skills of the Children’s Museum team and other national expertise. In 2018, the Museum signed a partnership agreement with the “Technical Assistance Project of the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Program in Jordan REEE II”, an EU-funded project that aims to raise awareness about energy efficiency and its applications.

Success Story: Taking Chances Together; Re-envisioning How Science Museums Connect with Marginalized Communities

Committed to the notion that science museums are spaces for everyone, but concerned that visitor engagement did not reflect community demographics, the Perot Museum of Nature and Science in Dallas, Texas, USA, launched an initiative to address disparity. Aligned with institutional goals to engage historically marginalized communities and supported by an Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) grant, a collaboration between Evaluation, Volunteer Services, and museum leadership was forged.

Success Story: Design Squad Global; Palestinian Youngsters Taking the Lead in Design Thinking

In 2017, Al Nayzak Organization for Supportive Education and Scientific Innovation, Palestine—NAMES Full Member—was invited by the Association of Science-Technology Centers (ASTC) to partake in the “Design Squad Global (DSG)” program within the framework of collaboration between ASTC and NAMES. As a result, twenty young Palestinian school students benefited from a unique chance to enjoy a wonderful learning experience in design thinking and engineering, in collaboration with peers from across the globe.
