Dr. Mohamed Hédi Ben Ismail
Director General of the Tunis Science City

Dr. Mohamed Hédi Ben Ismail earned a BA in Geological Sciences and Techniques from the Faculty of Sciences of Tunis in 1979, a Post-Graduate Qualification in Sedimentology in 1980 and a PhD in Geological Sciences and Techniques in 1982 from the University of Paris VI- France. In 1991 he obtained a Doctorate in Geology-Geophysics from the University of Tunis-Manar. Mr. Mohamed Hédi Ben Ismail is a Professor at the university Tunis- El Manar; as well as, a General Director at the Tunis Science City since September 2005.

His International activities have been dominated by projects investigating the sedimentology worldwide. He participated in many international meetings and congresses in Japan, Australia, China, Italy, Germany, Brazil, South Africa…He was also invited to take part in meetings and regional conferences.

Dr. Mohamed Hédi Ben Ismail undertook many research projects on regional geology, reservoir and sources rocks aspects, as well as the evaluation of oil field.

Dr. Hédi Ben Ismail has several publications in many scientific reviews and magazines .He has been a reviewer the Journal of African Earth Sciences since 1992 and Editor of Africa Geoscience review (1996 to 1997).

In 2001, he was granted the scientific award among the 20th century 2000 outstanding scientists by the International Biographical Centre-Cambridge-United Kingdom.

Dr. Mohamed Hédi Ben Ismail Takes part to the associative life. At present, he is president of MASAD (the Mediterranean Association for Science Advancement and Dissemination).He is also president of the Tunisian Association of Geological International Studies (ATEIG). Since 2006, he has been elected Vice-President of Names (North Africa and Middle East Science Centres. He was elected member at the Board Director of the International Association of Sedimentologists (IAS) for two sessions from 1998 to 2006. He was elected as Tunisia Representative at the executive board of the Arab Geologist Union (UGA), and at the Geoscientist Association for International Development (AGID). From 2002 to 2004, he was Tunisia representative in GEOMED Consortium.

From 1995 to 2000, Dr. Ben Ismail was a Deputy Mayor of Hammam Lif City as vice President and Director of International Boukornine Hammam Lif Cultural Festival (1998 and 1999).
