Biography:

Lamiaa Nail is the Co-founder and School Program Manager of the Egyptian Science Week (ESW). ESW is a national initiative that aims at increasing the public interest of science, technology and innovation. The event is held in March of every year, with different activities all around Egypt.
Formerly, Lamiaa held the position of Science Communication Specialist at Department of Physics at the American University in Cairo (AUC). Prior to working at AUC, Lamiaa has been the Education Team Leader of Tahrir Academy (www.tahriracademy.org), an online learning platform that creates mind-stimulating learning experiences for more than 150,000 learners. She has been able to develop more than 10 online learning courses in physics, chemistry & biology for youth from 13 to 18 years old. Lamiaa has also worked as a Research & Development Engineer in the industry, before shifting into Education & Science Communication.
Lamiaa is an alumna of the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP), a program led by the U.S. Department of State, for female leader in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). Lamiaa is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Education at AUC and holds a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering from Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University.

Egyptian Science Week: Egypt Speaks Science

Egyptian Science Week (ESW) is an annual Egyptian event that is held in March, gathering a vast variety of scientific events—scientific shows, public lectures, engaging scientific competitions, and various online activities. ESW harnesses the power of the community to reach out to people all over Egypt, in urban as well as rural areas, in collaboration with governmental organizations, universities, schools, research centers, NGOs, and student activities. In 2018, the community organized 400 science communication events in 27 Egyptian governorates, including a dedicated program to schools’ engagement and various pop events; such as science cafes, science theater, and field trips.
