Innovations in Outreach Expanding Science Center Impact Beyond Walls

As science centers continue to redefine their role within communities, outreach programs have emerged as powerful platforms for expanding access to informal science learning. “Innovations in Outreach” is a 90-minute hybrid session designed to showcase, compare, and experience diverse outreach models that successfully extend science engagement beyond institutional walls.

Following two 15-minute presentations, where invited presenters will showcase their outreach initiatives, highlighting program design, delivery models, audience reach, operational challenges, and measurable impact, the second segment (30 minutes) transitions into a facilitated roundtable discussion, including the introduction of the STEAM Bus initiative by The Scientific Center. This segment will explore mobile learning environments, partnership frameworks, scheduling demand, and strategies for reaching underserved schools and communities. Participants will be encouraged to exchange insights, ask questions, and reflect on how outreach can evolve within their own institutions.

The final segment (30 minutes) offers a hands-on experiential component aboard the STEAM Bus itself. Participants will engage directly with selected STEAM activities and educational setups, gaining a practical understanding of how mobile outreach content is delivered, facilitated, and adapted for different audiences.

By blending presentations, dialogue, and experience, the session provides a holistic exploration of outreach innovation in action.
