Creative Science Communication in the UAE:
The Artist-in-Residence Model

This presentation looks at how bringing art and science together can strengthen the way we teach, research, and practice science communication in the UAE. As the region continues to invest in both cultural spaces and scientific innovation, creative approaches are becoming increasingly important for making research easier to understand and more meaningful for diverse communities.

Using examples such as the NYUAD Artist-in-Residence program and other regional efforts, the presentation shows how artistic practices can help translate complex scientific ideas into engaging experiences for the public. When artistic inquiry intersects with STEM research, it opens new opportunities for interdisciplinary learning and supports approaches to communication that are culturally grounded and relevant.

These collaborations can spark fresh research questions, introduce new ways of working, and expand how people understand scientific issues. They also encourage hands-on engagement that builds trust, strengthens community participation, and enriches teaching and curriculum design in science
