Dr. Atheer Awad has recently been honoured as one of 15 innovators from the MENA region under 35 by MIT Technology Review, for her outstanding and highly-impactful work.

The enthusiasm for science starts with an eagerness to learn its basics, which leads to the next step: the passion for contribution. Although this step is expected from people with a major in science or who are planning to get one, it does not stop there. The general public can also contribute to science and get involved in scientific research and in-field work by means of "citizen science".

Supporting children who struggle with learning disabilities has always been a necessity, even if it has been overlooked for years. Recently, the awareness of inclusion and equity for all children has risen through different ways; campaigns, conferences, among other means. It has also been included in the 2030 agenda for the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

It is doubtless that Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) are highly visual subjects, which means that their teaching requires the use of visual techniques. This is the first barrier that hinders people with a visual impairment from pursuing their careers in these fields, regardless of their capabilities.

Creating special programs for children with disabilities and using special technology tools to help them fully absorb the experience are fundamental steps to increase their engagement and abilities in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields. Besides their vital role in leveling up our lives, these highly progressing fields are packed with opportunities thanks to the evolution of technology that has been creating higher demands for diversity of thought, experience, perspective, and background.

Childhood is the basic phase of learning and development, on which everything after is built. As such, each experience children go through during this period is so important and impacts them dramatically.

Science centers' and museums’ role in communicating science through hands-on experiences has been evident. Recently, they have been working on reshaping their identities to promote more social responsibility, engagement with complex science and technology issues, besides civic engagement and change.

Our mindsets can shape our lives, either positively or negatively. It is not always about how big the problem or how complicated the situation is; many times, it depends on our understanding and the way we respond is what determines the outcomes. Simply put, it depends on our mindset.

How our brain processes language has always been a rich field for research since it manifests how we learn, speak, and generally communicate.

Sometimes language turns out to be the barrier that hinders conveying the message; a struggle that many deaf students who have the potential to study science and pursue a career in it face.
