Abu Dhabi, 10 February 2015: In a step to advance the cooperation between the government of Abu Dhabi and the Republic of Korea in the field of science and technology, the Abu Dhabi Technology Development Committee (TDC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with The Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning of The Republic of Korea. The Abu Dhabi Technology Development Committee is coordinating the effort on behalf of a number of key Abu Dhabi Government institutions, namely the Department of Economic Development, the Abu Dhabi Systems and Information Centre, Mubadala and the Executive Affairs Authority. These Abu Dhabi government entities are keen on advancing the agenda of science, technology and innovation in Abu Dhabi to enable the creation of a knowledge-based economy.
As part of the MoU, TDC and The Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning of The Republic of Korea will work together to explore areas of synergy and promote cooperation between the two governments, research centers, education institutes, and enterprises of the two countries in the fields of science, technology and ICT.
The role that TDC is playing in coordinating this effort on behalf of the government of Abu Dhabi is part of TDC’s mandate to support the development of science, technology and innovation capabilities in line with the national innovation strategy and the Abu Dhabi economic vision 2030.
Commenting on the MoU, HE Ahmed Saeed Al Calily, Director General of TDC, said: “Science, technology and innovation have played a key role in the development of nations; Korea’s development is a prime example. Setting up partnerships with leading organisations such as The Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning of The Republic of Korea, helps in sharing best practices and would no doubt be beneficial as we continue to develop our capabilities and infrastructure for a knowledge-based economy.”
Al Calily added: “The partnership seeks to develop ICT activities in the UAE, enhance knowledge skills transfer and promote a greater understanding and interest in the ICT sector. The MoU aims to benefit a variety of stakeholders; including companies, government entities, and educational institutions from both sides.”
