The EMME 2024 MasterClass is a professional in-person only training offered to a limited number of participants on 5-6 May 2024 at Konya Science Center, Konya, Türkiye, prior to NAMES 2024 conference, which takes place 7-9 May.
Led by a distinguished group of experts from Europe and the NAMES region, the training is for professionals from non-profit science engagement organizations, working in or interested in exhibition development, from entry to intermediate level. It is grounded on practice, supported by theory, interactive in the form of active workshops, and includes sections on visitors studies and co-creation.
In this MasterClass , participants will delve into the world of exhibit development, leveraging the power of Design Thinking as the foundational framework and weaving fundamental theory into the program. This learning experience is designed to empower individuals to create compelling and impactful exhibits centered around a subject of their choice.
Note: Participants are encouraged to bring in their personal Laptops.
Key Highlights
Day 1 - Discover/Empathize + Define (Including Persona Development):
On the first day, participants will immerse themselves in the initial stages of exhibit development, with a special emphasis on Discover/Empathize, Define, and the crucial aspect of Persona Development. Participants will form groups of 5-6 individuals, selecting a subject close to their hearts.
The research and discussion driven sessions will guide participants in understanding their subjects deeply and empathizing with their audience by creating detailed personas. These personas will serve as a foundation for designing exhibits that resonate with the specific needs and interests of their intended viewers.
Day 2 - Ideate + Prototype:
The second day is dedicated to the Ideation and Prototyping phases. Participants, armed with a rich understanding of their subjects and audience personas, will collaborate within their groups to generate innovative ideas and translate them into tangible prototypes. The day's activities will encourage creative thinking, co-creation, and rapid prototyping, ensuring each group is well-prepared for the final pitch.
Pitch Development and Feedback:
Over the four guided sessions, participants will progress through different exhibit development stages, from ideation to co-creation. The culmination of their efforts will be a 5-minute pitch on a new exhibition concept. On the second day, groups will present their ideas, including the personas they developed, to the masterclass organizers, who will provide valuable feedback to refine and enhance their concepts.
Outcome:
By the end of the MasterClass, participants will not only grasp Design Thinking principles but will have developed a profound understanding of their chosen subjects and audiences. This unique experience promises to unlock creativity, foster collaboration, and equip individuals with the skills and practical tools to create exhibits that authentically engage their audience.
