The first edition of the Euro-Mediterranean and Middle East Summer School for Science Communication, EMME 2013, was hosted by Parque de las Ciencias, Granada, Spain, from 22 to 27 September 2013. For five days, Parque de las Ciencias, became the capital of scientific communication and the center of the development of joint projects between museums and science centers in the Middle East and Europe. More than 50 experts from 14 countries have participated in EMME 2013.

Egypt, Kuwait, Turkey, Tunisia, Palestine, United Kingdom, Algeria, Italy, United Arab Emirates, Portugal, France, the United States, Belgium and Spain have been represented at this summer school in which experts, such as the Exhibition Director of The Exploratorium, San Francisco, Tom Rockwell, the Head of the Science Unit of UNESCO, Mario Scalet or the Director of the Planetarium Science Center of the Library of Alexandria, Hoda El-Mitaky, have tackled the sience communication theme in a professional way that has integrated areas such as education, exhibition development, new technologies and marketing.

All the partners have highlighted the value of the summer school and its importance to create connections between Europe and the countries of the Mediterranean and the Middle East. In this sense, Mr. Mijbil Almutawa, NAMES President, has announced that he has predicted that this summer school will be the first in a long history that will always have Granada and the Parque de las Ciencias as references. Mr. Almutawa has congratulated Parque de las Ciencias for hosting EMME 2013 and has expressed its intention to continue working together in the future so that this project is held annually.
