Ciência Viva, the Portuguese National Agency for Scientific and Technological Culture, was created in 1996 to promote public awareness of science and technology and science education at a national level. Starting up as a unit of the Ministry of Science and Technology, it is nowadays an association, which include public bodies and research institutes. Since its creation, Ciência Viva has been developing activities along three different streams: science education (schools), public awareness of science (citizens) and a national network of science centres. The Pavilion of Knowledge, Lisbon, the headquarters of Ciência Viva, is the largest science centre in Portugal.
Activities
Ciência Viva's areas of expertise include STEM education, public engagement, and the dissemination of scientific knowledge. Ciência Viva has three main networks at national level: the Network of 20 Science Centers, the Network of Science Clubs at Schools (895 open spaces at schools for contact with science and technology), the Network of Schools (20 pre-school and/or primary school where students spend a whole week at a science centre with their teachers combining practical and experimental work with the curricula in an educational environment of a science centre.) and a new Network of Ciencia Viva Experimental Farms.

Ciência Viva operates through a Network of 20 Science Centers across Portugal, offering interactive exhibitions, educational programs, public engagement initiatives and outreach activities for people of all ages.
Ciência Viva has more than a decade of experience in developing high quality interactive travelling exhibitions in a wide variety of STEAM topics. From the initial idea to the final product, we idealize, ideate, prototype, and manage the entire project. With three large interactive exhibitions currently on the international market, and several smaller productions at national level, our experience makes us experts in the international market of exhibitions production.
