The award honors the legacy of the late Mijbil Almutawa, a pivotal figure in the development of NAMES and the science engagement field. The program supports young science engagement professionals by covering expenses to attend the EMME Summer School 2025, 21-25 September, Lisbon, Portugal.
Award Details
The Mijbil Almutawa Award 2025 provides up to USD 1000 to cover roundtrip air ticket and accommodation expenses for one winner. The winner also receives a certificate and souvenir.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the award, candidates must be:
- Non-managerial staff members of science centers, museums, or other science communication entities within the NAMES region.
- Have at least one year of documented experience at a science communication institution.
- Younger than 35 years old.
- Not a previous winner of the award.
How to Apply
Nominations must be submitted by science centers, museums, or other science engagement entities within NAMES region. Each institution can submit one application per year.
- Applicants need to complete & submit the Application Form along with a CV and a 300-500 word Nomination Letter signed by the institution’s Chief Executive Officer, Board Chairperson, or equivalent.
- Application Deadline: 17 July 2025.
About the EMME Summer School 2025
The Euro-Mediterranean and Middle East (EMME) Summer School for Science Communication offers an intensive 5-day training program designed to elevate your science engagement impact. Hosted in Lisbon, Portugal, 21-25 September 2025, at Ciência Viva's Pavilion of Knowledge, this program is for middle- and senior-level professionals. You'll gain practical skills in collaborative science communication, leveraging AI tools, and co-creating impactful programs with communities.
