Mark your calendars! The International Day of Scientific Culture (IDSC) is celebrated every year on 28 September. This date was chosen to honor the anniversary of the first broadcast of the influential science series Cosmos, a true milestone in science communication.
The IDSC is more than just a date; it's a global initiative to highlight the critical role that scientific culture plays in our world. In a time of major global challenges like climate change and sustainability, an understanding of science is essential for making informed decisions. By engaging with science, we empower ourselves to build a better future for humanity and our planet.
What is Scientific Culture?
Scientific culture goes beyond simply knowing scientific facts. It's about seeing the world through a knowledge-based perspective, understanding science's role in society, and applying scientific thinking to everyday life. A scientifically educated public is crucial for social progress and problem-solving.
This initiative was founded in 2020 by a group of institutions dedicated to strengthening science communication and culture.
