In highly technologized societies and economies, science centers are increasingly regarded as key engines for innovation and growth. From a growing scope of sectors, the pressure is mounting on science centers to provide adequate solutions for a wide range of challenges. Schools demand their help to meet high standards and indicators in innovation, enquiry, critical thinking, and problem-solving. Industry and research institutions expect them to showcase innovation, enterprise, and new work practices. Governments and local administration look at them as places for communicating science and promote science literacy. Society, as a whole, expects science centers to help connecting diverse groups and citizens to promote social cohesion.
This session will address practical cases of positive response to these societal expectations. We will debate a wide range of strategic partnerships with schools, industry, research, and policymakers. Participants will take home a better view of how to transform museums and science centers into platforms for national, regional, and international development, bringing together the most dynamic actors in their countries and regions.
