Sawsan Dalaq
NAMES President
Director, The Children's Museum Jordan, JORDAN

Bio:

I joined the Children’s Museum Jordan in early 2007 as its Director.  The Museum is a NGO focused on delivering interactve learning to children under 12 years of age and recieves over 300,000 visitors annually.  My background is in development with a focus on education and leading the Children’s Museum Jordan allowed me to combine passion and fullfillment.  I was honored to have been elected as NAMES President in 2004 and re-elected for a final term in 2016.

I sincerely believe in the huge value of our centers and museums and the impact they can have in supporting the formal learning structure.  Two of the most rewarding aspects of my work are: seeing children interact and learn in our Exhibit Hall and being part of a team that believes in the “cause” of our organization.

Abstract:

SUSTAINABLE FOR THE LONG TERM – MAINTAINING AND DEVELOPING A NATIONAL CENTER

To be truly sustainable, an organization must address its survival and growth from all aspects: its finances, structure, operations, as well as its long term vision. In this session, the Children’s Museum Jordan (CMJ) will share why and how sustainability has become a strategic objective and how they are aiming to apply the term to everything they are doing.

After 10 years of operation and growth, CMJ’s management has identified several risks they are facing in terms of maintaining and growing their operations. Should sustainability be defined in financial terms and what are the main factors to be taken into consideration? How do we align all of the organization’s board, management, team, and partners towards the same goal? Join this session to learn more about their experience so far.
