Vivian Tannous
Researcher, Qattan Foundation,PALESTINE

Bio:

Works as a researcher in A.M.Qattan Foundation, mainly in the early childhood development program. Before joining the Qattan she worked as a teacher for children of ages (4-6). She used in her teaching different new interactive methods such as drama in education, theatre and informal science as she believes teachers should provide contexts where children could explore the world around them and express themselves freely. She is trying now to train other teachers to use these methods. She is working too now as a curriculum developer.

Abstract:

Vivian and Malik will focus on the concepts of “capable” verses “competent”, and how a child can emerge as competent through process and action. Referring to Deleuze’s concept of “emergence” and “becoming”, a child is transformed from being only capable to “becoming” competent under certain social conditions where experiences and activities are designed in a “rhizomic” path. The speakers will rely on examples that focus on the integration of Drama and Science, arguing that with the integration of science and art in museum contexts, museum developers and leaders may open new opportunities for children emergence to “become” competent.
